The best vegan-friendly restaurants in the South West

Planning a trip to the South West of England soon?

Whether you’re a tourist or local, there’s no denying that this picturesque part of the UK is a culinary haven for vegans – lucky us! From lively cities to cosy countryside towns, the South West’s array of restaurants and cafes offer a feast of flavours for plant-based enthusiasts.

But when you’re spoiled for choice, it can be tricky to know which eateries stand out above the rest. That’s why we've compiled a handy guide to the best vegan-friendly restaurants in the South West, including some you may recognise from our Vegan Fairs events.

Let’s dive right in…

Our top plant-based picks

Vegivores (Reading)

Vegivores started life as a market vendor, attending plant-based events across the country – including Vegan Fairs! Now a brick-and-mortar restaurant, they serve up breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch every Wednesday to Sunday. Our favourite dishes include the loaded nachos, crispy gnocchi and pancakes.

Plant.Eat.Licious (Bath)

Located in the heart of Bath, this restaurant provides an entirely vegan menu featuring options for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Expect sharing platters, burgers, poke bowls, and salads, as well as an assortment of cookies, sweet buns, and more.

Earthling (Bournemouth)

Ran by a friendly self-confessed foodie, Earthling is a fully vegan café and restaurant that offers fast food such as burritos, wraps, and burgers, as well as coffee, cakes and drinks. Orders can be customised and made gluten-free on request.

Karibu Vegan Bar & Kitchen (Stroud)

This vegan restaurant operates out of No.23 Kitchen, serving up delicious plant-based food that is inspired by the owner’s Kenyan roots. A must-try on the menu is Karibu’s Caribbean jerk 'steak,’ but we also adore the nachos with home-cooked tortilla chips and smashed plantain.

Eden Cafe (Witney)

This cosy cafe was originally based inside a mobile food trailer, attending events across the South West. In 2014 they opened a permanent location in Witney and turned fully vegan in 2019. Expect a variety of plant-based sweets and savoury treats.

Hedgerow Café (Plymouth)

This award-winning, family-run business recently opened its first brick-and-mortar café after being a mobile vendor in and around Devon for years. Expect brunch, lunch, barista coffee and local plant-based produce in this cosy little spot in Plymouth’s city centre.

Pot & Page (Ledbury)

Pot & Page is a hybrid plant-based eatery, bookshop, and event space that’s nestled in the charming Tudor town of Ledbury. They serve everything from freshly prepared brunches and lunches to hot drinks and evening dinners. They have a big focus on prioritising locally sourced ingredients, which we’re big fans of.

No Frickin Chicken (Worcester)

This beloved vegan vendor will be opening their first permanent site in Worcester very, very soon, where we expect they will be serving up an array of tasty plant-based fried chicken. Keep your eyes peeled on their Instagram page for details of their opening date.

SUPA Thai Vegan (Newport)

SUPA Thai Vegan, situated in Newport, is a fully vegan Thai restaurant. They specialise in traditional Thai comfort food with a contemporary flair, and their menu features creative dishes such as chick'n and chickpea massaman, tofu tom yum noodles, garlicky chick'n, and more.

The Queen Inn (Cwmbran)

No trip to the South West is complete without a visit to the world’s first fully vegan steakhouse pub. They have a huge selection of vegan ‘meat’ dishes on their menu, including plant-based steaks, lasagnas, burgers and more.

Oak Restaurant (Bath)

Although not fully vegan, Oak is a vegetarian restaurant that has plenty of plant-based dishes on offer. This high-end restaurant has small plates and a taster menu that is all focused on organic, local and artisanal ingredients. They also have a good selection of natural wines – cheers to that!
